- This manuscript is a compilation, containing parts of three separate Pontificals copied between late 10th or early 11th and 12th centuries (two of which include coronation ordos); some records pertaining to Christ Church which were originally copied into the Gospel-book in Cotton Tiberius A II between the 11th and early 12th century; miniatures produced in England and Germany in the early 12th century and the later Middle Ages; and lawcodes and a poem associated with the earliest of the Pontificals.

Materials: parchment and ink.
Dimensions: binding 250 × 170 mm (leaves 240 x 150 mm).
Foliation: ff. i + 150 (where f. 1 and the 2 unfoliated parchment leaves before after f. 1 are early modern endleaves and the unfoliated leaf after f. 150 is a medieval endleaf + 2 unfoliated modern paper flyleaves at the beginning and at the end).
Binding: Post-1600 Cottonian, 1st half of the 17th century (repaired at the British Museum in 1851).

Sir Robert Bruce Cotton (b. 1571, d. 1631), 1st baronet, antiquary and politician: inscribed with his name (f. 2r).
Cotton’s collection was augmented by his son, Sir Thomas Cotton (b. 1594, d. 1662), 2nd baronet, and his grandson, Sir John Cotton. Sir John Cotton (b. 1621, d. 1702), 3rd baronet: bequeathed the entire Cotton collection of books and manuscripts to trustees ‘for Publick Use and Advantage’, 12 and 13 William III, c. 7. Formed one of the foundation collections of the British Museum in 1753.
