Fragmentary letter of Apollonius, chief minister of finances (dioiketes), to Zenon, enclosing the copy of a petition he had received from someone whose name is lost, who appears to have been jailed.

Left-hand portion of a light-brown papyrus sheet of fine quality, with insect-holes and with a zig-zag break on the right; written on one side, the back being blank. The front preserves the beginnings of 14 lines written across the fibres. Upper, left and lower margins are ample. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass frame.

Extent:
Left-hand portion of a light-brown papyrus sheet, worm-eaten in a zigzag line along the edges; with darker patches on the right-hand side; written on both sides. The front bears the beginnings of 13 lines written across the fibres; a sheet-join runs horizontally at c. 40 mm from the bottom. The back has one line running along the fibres. Another fragment of the same papyrus is now Cairo. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass frame with a small opening to show the text on the back.

Central portion of a medium-brown papyrus sheet, three additional fragments of which are in Cairo and Columbia University, New York; complete at the top and bottom; with some damage along the folds; bearing writing on both sides. On the front, there are 8 lines running across the fibres, lacking beginnings and ends; upper and lower margins are extant. A sheet-join runs at c. 80 mm from the top. The fragment in Cairo (P.Cair.Zen. I 59017) preserves the ends of lines 5-8; one fragment at Columbia University (P.Col. IV 115g) preserves the beginnings of lines 3-8; the other fragment at Columbia University (P.Col. IV 61) preserves the beginnings of lines 1-2. On the back, there is one word written along the fibres at the bottom, upside down in relation to the text on the front. The papyrus is housed in a glass frame.

Two fragments of a long and narrow papyrus sheet which do not join, medium-brown, broken off at the bottom and complete at the top and on the sides; there is minor surface damage along the folds. Writing runs on both sides. On the front, there are 16 lines written along the fibres, the upper fragment bearing 6 lines, and the lower 10 lines; some lines were lost in between. The upper margin is ample; the right margin is minimal. On the back, there is one word written across the fibres the other way up in relation to the text on the front. The papyrus is housed in a glass frame.

Two papyrus fragments of varying size, dark-brown, with writing on one side along the fibres, the back being blank; mounted on cardboard in a glass frame. The left fragment preserves portions of 12 lines from the top of a column; upper and part of the left margins survive. The right fragment is broken off on all sides and bears portions of 7 lines.
