- Title:
- Lee Harwood: Notebooks
- Scope & Content:
-
42 notebooks that blend dated journal entries, draft poems and notes towards poems. They include pocket notebooks used largely to record Harwood's trips and journeys, recording ideas and impressions 'on the move', and larger format notebooks that rested on the poet's desk. The latter are more reflective in character and contain more poetry in draft, although the distinction is frequently blurred in practice. Also, the smaller and larger format notebooks sometimes overlap in their chronology. The desk notebooks are sometimes supplemented with a variety of material loosely inserted. The notebooks should be read in conjunction with Harwood's diaries (Add MS 88998/3), which form a separate series in the archive.
