Records largely pre-dating the 1973 conference when the Oral History Society (OHS) was founded. The contents relate to the events leading up to the Society's formation and document interactions between prominent figures and bodies in the development of the oral history movement in the UK. The files have been maintained true to the manner in which they were originally organised and some date spans extend beyond the Society's formation date.
There is much information here relating to the Society's efforts to establish a Central Oral History Unit that would act as: a national repository for oral history recordings; a place to seek advice about recording equipment and interview techniques; and a facilitator of information exchange and dialogue about oral history.
