The Consular sub-sub-series primarily contains files related to nationality, travel, passports and visas (and other travel documents issued by the British authorities).

Also contained in the sub-sub-series are files related to British Government policy in 'Arabian Affairs' (IOR/R/15/2/1742), the transfer of responsibility for Gulf Affairs from the Colonial Office to the India Office (IOR/R/15/2/1743), British Government Policy in Yemen (IOR/R/15/2/1750), the relationship between the British Government and Shaikh Khaz‘al bin Jābir bin Mirdāw al-Ka‘bī, the Ruler of Mohammerah (IOR/R/15/2/1747) and the British Industrial Fair (IOR/R/15/2/1755).

The majority of the correspondence in the files is between British government officials and is in English, but the files also contain correspondence in Arabic, including letters to/from regional rulers as well correspondence from other Gulf locals including merchants.
