Receipt of a Camel-Keeper (P.Lond. II 295, TM 11678)
Scope & Content:
Receipt issued by Papeeis, a camel-keeper of Dionysias, to Ptollis and the other grain collectors (sitologi) of the toparchy of Dionysias, on account of the camels used for transporting the grain from the granaries of the division to designated harbours.

Upper portion of a papyrus sheet, broken off at the bottom and somewhat damaged along some of the vertical folding lines; the lower part of the sheet is defaced. Writing runs along the fibres on one side, the back being blank. Left and upper margins survive; no margin was left to the right, and the lower margin is lost. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass case.

Complete papyrus sheet, damaged by a few holes of small size and occasionally lacking strips of horizontal fibres. The text runs along the fibres on one side, with the back blank, and is abraded at the end of the lines. Left, upper and lower margins are extant, with the blank space at the bottom measuring 80 mm; no margin was left at the right. The papyrus was mounted on cardboard in a glass case.

Two papyrus fragments that do not belong together housed in one glass case.

Left fragment (A): Broken off at the bottom, with holes and surface damage; written on one side along the fibres, the back being blank. 12 lines survive.

Right fragment (B): Broken off at the bottom, damaged by holes; with writing on both sides along the fibres. On the front, a strip of vertical fibres is visible in the upper poriotn of the sheet. The back was rotated 90 degrees and contains one line and a red stamp. The front bears the top of a column, of which 10 lines survive.

Complete papyrus sheet, damaged at the sides and in the lower part. The surface is abraded in places. Writing is on either side: on the front there is a wide column of 24 lines written along the fibres; the blank space at the bottom measures 88 mm. On the back there are two lines written across the fibres and the official stamp in red.

There are 16 lines, complete, and all margins are extant. The blank space at the bottom measures 65 mm. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass frame.

Sale of a white-mouse-coloured donkey purchased for 148 drachmas in the village of Herakleia by Stotoetis, son of Horus, of Soknopaiou Nesos, from Dioscorus, son of Castor. The scribe is Alcimus, who also wrote the subscription on account of Dioscorus, who is illiterate.

Light-brown papyrus sheet, fully preserved although somewhat damaged along the two vertical folds. Slight abrasion affects the end of two lines. Writing runs along the fibres on one side, the back being blank. The text consists of one column with 32 lines, complete. The first line is indented and separated by some blank space from the following line. All margins are extant, with barely any blank space left at the bottom and right. A sheet-join runs across the fibres at c. 1-3 mm from the right edge. The papyrus is mounted on cardboard in a glass case.
