Foliation: this file consists of six physical volumes. The foliation sequence (used for referencing) commences at the inside front cover of volume one (ff 1-147) and terminates at the inside back cover of volume six (ff 741-888); these numbers are written in pencil, are circled, and are located in the top right corner of the recto side of each folio. An additional foliation sequence is also present in parallel between ff 4-885; these numbers are also written in pencil, but are not circled, and are located in the bottom right corner of the recto side of each folio.
Pagination: an intermittent pagination sequence comprising of printed and written numbers is present in parallel throughout.

The Letters and Enclosures are filed in chronological order from the front to the rear of the volumes. The sets of enclosures to despatches are arranged in numerical (by despatch number) and chronological order from the front to the rear of the volumes. The enclosures within many, but not all, despatches are preceded by an abstract of contents, in which the despatch itself (not included) is numbered 1, the abstract of contents 2, and the enclosures 3, 4, etc. The numbers listed in the abstract of contents are recorded for reference on the verso of the last folio of each enclosure, along with the original reference, and a description of each enclosure.
